The Newsroom Council, a Colombian investigative journalism association, has completed the training series “The green agenda in investigative journalism” which took place from Aug 3. – Oct. 10.
Fifty-one journalists participated in initial online discussions, and 25 of those attended a series of face-to-face workshops and roundtables dealing with six topics: water, environmental regulation, solid waste, the environment and conflict, biomass, and climate change.

Eleven of those reporters participated in the final set of trainings Oct. 9-10, which consisted of four activities:
- A presentation on the relationship between environmental topics and the journalism agenda as part of the 4th Ibero-American Congress on Development and the Environment
- Training on digital tools for investigative journalism
- A roundtable on investigative journalism techniques
- Presentations of environmental feature proposals by the participants in a simulated newsroom environment
The journalists plan to use the new tools they learned during the training to investigate water contamination, solid and hospital waste management, agriculture, livestock, environmental policies, and public water utilities.
The project was sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, the College of Rural and Environmental Studies and the Journalism Program at the Universidad Javeriana, and the Andean Development Corporation. by MIRIAM FORERO
